THE BACCUNEERS GAVE EGYPTIAN GIANTS A FOOTBALL LESSON
|
Pirates preparing their game against kaizer chiefs on saturday |
Orlando Pirates are now favourites to win the CAF champions league following their positive results against the Egyptian giants
Al Ahly and
Zamalek respectively. They secured
3 points at the backyard of Al Ahly the past few weeks, thanks to goals from Sfiso Myeni, Thandani Ntshumayelo and Andile Jali. Seems like Roger De Sa and his troops are on the right track as they now leading the group with 7 points. Pirates have conceded only four goals in the tournament and they have scored more than 20 goals, this is one the signs that shows Pirates are the favourites to win the tournament. But looking at the Pirates that plays in the PSL compared to the Pirates that plays in the champions league, these two sides are different, there is more fighting spirit to the Pirates playing in the champions league, question is what is troubling them when it comes to PSL. HOW ROGER CHANGED PIRATES TO A COMPETITIVE SQUAD?
|
Rooi Mahamutsa closing down Al Ahly striker |
Last season most of the Pirates supporters almost lost their minds when Roger was appointed as their head coach, looking at their cabinet, they are now trophyless all the trophies they have won the past two season are now gone. This season Roger made few signings to bolster his squad because he knows that you need to have a strong squad when playing in Africa. But it remains to be seen whether they will secure a 2nd star or not, but without taking anything away from them... they are promising and they are the strongest side. On saturday night
(17 August) they caused an upset to another Egyptian side Zamalek, they came out victorious with the score of 4-1 at Orlando Stadium. For champions league results and standings, visit this website

WHAT CAN OTHER TEAMS LEARN FROM PIRATES?
Looking at their current squad, Pirates is more like a family, they are working as a team, when attacking they assist each other and as well as when they are defending. What lacks in some of the South African teams is, there are too many internal tensions so it becomes tough to work as a team because coaches select their starting eleven according to favourites. Look at what is happening at Sundowns, Sundowns have too many players close to 45 and i can assure you that there are separated into groups, theres a group of players who are dedicated to the team and the group of players who are just there for money, so how can a team win silverwares when they are seperated into groups, no ways! thats why Kaizer Chiefs have reduced their squad to 28 in order to make sure that every player contributes to the team's success.
Pirates is an example of how a big squad can benefit a club playing across the continent. Unlike sundowns who dont need a big squad because they are currently playing in SA only. Kaizer Chiefs should bolster its squad as well becuase playing across the continent is a mission that can be taxing to a small squad.
ReplyDeletetrue, chiefs need to bolster its squad if they want to be the best side in Africa
DeleteTrue day hey. When comparing the Pirates that plays in the ABSA league and CAF league, there is a much more difference as maybe they are focusing more on winning the CAF and they know they still have more time to catch up in the ABSA league... Lets hope they will make us proud and win the CAF league
ReplyDeleteWe all hope so man, come next year we going to have 2 teams in the champions league
DeleteI am not a fan of Orlando Pirates but I do believe in giving credit where it's due. Pirates played one hell of a game and I think they are well on their way to a second star.
ReplyDeletewell we'll see Kea, wish them best of luck
DeleteWe are congratulating the boys for winning these two games between these two teams but Roger needs to encourage his players to focus on both sides, that is on the PSL and on the champion`s league.
ReplyDeletewithout taking anything away from them, they really deserve a bells
DeleteJudging by the way Pirates have been playing lately, they will get it. it would be good for the PSL clubs knowing that two teams will qualify for the Champions league.
ReplyDeletecome next year ntwana, chiefs will be shining
DeleteI bealive that if they play as a team again and continue with a positive attitude they'll definetly win again
